Most people do not realise that their old things could actually be quite valuable to someone else. Consequently, they often throw things away or give them to charity rather than attempt to sell them. Not only do people not realise that their old clutter is valuable, they often also assume that selling their old stuff is too time consuming and difficult. Whilst in the past, this may have been true, but now it is possible to sell your old stuff online it is much easier to turn your junk into cash.
Here are a few ways you can use to sell your old stuff on the web…
Sell on auction sites
Millions of people sell their old stuff using auction sites, but if you have never tried an auction site before it can seem daunting having to take photos, write a description and deal with questions from potential buyers. However, whilst the first time will take a while to get to grips with, once you have done it a couple of times you will be able to list an item within a matter of minutes.
Auction sites offer a secure way to sell things, but you have to bear in mind that most charge you to list each item. Therefore, it makes sense to sell items that will fetch at least a few pounds rather than items that are worth next to nothing. You can always sell those very low value items at car boot sales, to re-cycling companies or simply give them to charity.
Sell on classified sites
If you do not fancy an auction site, try a local classified website. On most classified sites, you can list items without having to pay a fee. You also do not need to worry about taking and posting photos of the item, though of course this is advisable for the best success rates.
Collecting payment is usually up to you. As a result, most people prefer to exchange the item for the cash in person. If you do decide to do this, it is wise to do it in a public place. That way you will not have to invite a stranger into your home.
Classified websites are an especially good place to sell furniture and large items, though you’ll find that you can sell most things via these websites.
Other ways to sell online
Many people forget that local newspapers also allow you to list small items for sale without paying a fee. They print the advert in their paper and these days many newspapers list them on their website too.
Nowadays, most items can be re-cycled, some even for a bit of extra cash, and even broken or worn items are likely to have some value. A lot of recycling firms and re-sellers have websites – on these sites you can do a quick search to find out how much a company is willing to pay you for your goods.
If there is anything that you cannot sell, do not throw it away. You can always give it to charity.
